Philip is a Professor of Design with a Ph.D. in engineering design from the University of Bath. His research focuses on  design processes and how design teams work together, as well as design research quality. This is complemented by research on behavioural design in collaboration with industry, focusing on how design can be used to help tackle major challenges facing society by helping people foster healthier and more sustainable ways of living. His research has been authored or co-authored in journals including Design Studies, Journal of Engineering Design, and International Journal of Design.
