We attempt to understand the impact of emerging technologies and practices, and imagine, prototype and explore possible preferable futures around those technologies. I am particularly interested in:<\/p><ul><li>technology to support neighbourhoods and communities, especially for civic engagement.<\/li><li>designing a\u00a0trusted Internet of Things by embedding values including privacy, openness, decentralisation, inclusion and literacy.<\/li><li>making, DIY and craft approaches to technology, particularly to support people in harnessing technology for themselves.<\/li><li>participatory methods combing a range of approaches from speculative design to long-term deployments of functioning prototypes \u2018in the wild\u2019.<\/li><\/ul><p>Previously, I received my PhD from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lancaster.ac.uk\/scc\/\">Lancaster University<\/a>\u00a0before joining Newcastle University\u2019s Culture Lab (now\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/openlab.ncl.ac.uk\/\">Open Lab<\/a>) and DJCAD at the University of Dundee.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"has_eae_slider elementor-column elementor-col-33 elementor-top-column
