Immersive Technology Applications
Team: Derianna Thomas, Lars Erik Holmquist (Northumbria University);
Timeframe: 2019-2022
Many peoples attempts to use virtual reality are hindered by the use of bulky headsets, unfamiliar controllers, and connecting wires, meaning they may miss out on potential applications that could improve their day-to-day lives. This project is investigating the use of portable devices, such as mobile phones and wearables, to allow an immediate and effortless immersive experience where the user has full control. This mainly focuses on the application of augmented reality, bringing a technical overlay to what we see in front of us. Initial uses have been seen in games such as Pokémon GO, however this project looks at extending this to business and healthcare applications to ease and make more efficient existing practices.
