How To Apply
PROCEDURE
Purpose
This procedure sets out how external and internal users request access to the Thin Film Fabrication (TF-FAB) facility, from initial enquiry through to the return of completed samples. It is intended as a brief guide to the typical route; specific requirements are confirmed with the laboratory team on a case-by-case basis.
Contact
For all enquiries please use the contact form or email the thin film laboratory manager at c.c.lukose [at] northumbria.ac.uk.
Typical process flow
- Access request made via web form, email or other means.
- After email acknowledgement our team will arrange a meeting to confirm requirements (sample size and numbers, materials, film properties, etc).
- The team will review health and safety requirements, target supply and prepare a costing proposal.
- Once the proposal is accepted, the client confirms acceptance in writing and provides any purchase order or internal charge code.
- If applicable, lab time is scheduled and the client completes any required access arrangements, including a safety induction before first attendance.
- Samples are fabricated to the agreed specification and inspected against the target film properties.
- Completed samples and any accompanying summary are returned to the client, and feedback is requested to close the request.
Health, safety and induction
All users must comply with the laboratory’s health and safety requirements. First-time users complete a safety induction before attending the facility, and any hazards associated with the supplied materials must be declared in advance.
