Derianna Thomas

Doctoral Researcher

I am a PhD researcher in CoCreate, and have previously studied BSc Mathematics and Psychology and MSc Computer Games Engineering at Newcastle University, where I had an interest in using games for learning. For example, my masters dissertation concentrated on creating a virtual game-like experience in eLearning to improve users’ motivation and performance that could be used on PC, Google Cardboard, and Oculus GO. Through this and casual gaming I found my passion for virtual and augmented reality and have focused my attention on developing for these using Unity. I aim to combine my previous areas in my current research where I am looking at creating immersive technology applications that are more realistic and comfortable for users to experience, with potential uses in gaming, business, and healthcare.
