Julie Bradford
Senior Lecturer
I am a former journalist with the French press agency AFP in Paris and the Middle East, and author of Fashion Journalism (Routledge, 2015).
I trained as a journalist on the Newcastle Evening Chronicle, where I worked as news reporter, investigative reporter and consumer editor. I then joined AFP and worked in the Middle East, before transferring to the agency’s Paris headquarters and working on fashion, lifestyle and news.
After returning to the UK, I worked at Sunderland University where I set up BA (Hons) Fashion Journalism – the only such course to gain professional accreditation from the Professional Publishers Association (PPA) and the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ).
I wrote the first dedicated book on Fashion Journalism, published by Routledge in 2015, and have contributed chapters on catwalk reporting and fashion journalism to the Berg Fashion Archive and the book Specialist Journalism (Turner, B and Orange, R, 2012, Routledge).
I moved to Northumbria University in September 2015 to join the Fashion Communication team. Here I teach on modules including Fashion Publication, Journalism, PR, Final Major Project and Professional Practice. I’m also working towards a PhD by publication on the theme of social media and the re-mediation of fashion.
