Tor Alexander Bruce

I have a background in journalism and the third sector, the latter involved being a charity ambassador and developing homeless projects in the 1990’s through to founding a registered charity: Eye Of The Fly, in 2001. This involved the transformation of a 10,000 square feet derelict factory into an arts-education facility, and recruiting a broad-database of multi-ethnicity, North East-based creative facilitators, with a mission to provide young people facing barriers to learning and living a platform for personal development. I have also worked in the design studio of Elbilia 76, living in Montreal, Canada. I am interested in the use of space, how people navigate it and how it can be designed with a social purpose in a real-world context. My doctoral research is multi-disciplinary, funded by one of the UK’s leading VR tech-companies, Immersive Interactive. The research is exploring the role and efficacy of human-centred emerging technologies through immersive virtual environments (IVEs) in the context of mental health interventions, responding to a pressing social issue of increasing numbers of individuals presenting health challenges of this nature.
