What is the toolkit and how can I use it?

This engagement toolkit offers a variety of methods for consulting and connecting with park stakeholders beyond traditional approaches e.g. surveys, meetings and focus groups. 

The toolkit was developed through a research collaboration between Northumbria University and Urban Green Newcastle, a park charity that managed 33 parks and over 61 allotments in Newcastle upon Tyne between 2019 and 2025. 

The process entailed a review of academic and grey literature. This sought to identify innovative forms of engagement that could be used by park charities, local authorities and other park providers. Additional good practice engagement methods will be added from the British Academy funded research.
