Welcome to Nu-omics
The NU-OMICS DNA Sequencing Research Facility is a state-of-the-art, research-led service at Northumbria University. We work with both academic and industrial partners, have over 10 years of experience as a sequencing provider, and can add value to research from entry level clients to those with more experience of genomics.
ABOUT US
NU-OMICS is directed by Professor Darren Smith and staffed by experienced scientists led by Dr. Andrew Nelson. Learn about us here.
SERVICES
We offer both short- and long-read sequencing and can tailor a service based on the project at hand. We work from sample extraction to sequencing and data analysis. Check out our standard lists of services here.
FACILITIES
We have a variety of sequencing platforms, liquid handling machines, and quality control measures. Take a look at our portfolio here.

Introducing Parse Biosciences Single-Cell RNA-Sequencing
Single-cell RNA-seq has come to the NU-OMICS DNA Sequencing Research Facility with the use of Parse Biosciences’ instrument agnostic kits, allowing for short and long-read sequencing.
Scientific Officers, Kim Nguyen-Phuoc and Theodora Tanou, attending training with Parse Biosciences Field Application Scientist Ewa Mularczyk on the use of the WT Mini Kit for the single-cell sequencing of 10,000 cells. For NU-OMIC’s first single-cell projects, they will generate both short- and long-reads to compare the data obtained on Illumina and Pacbio platforms and their optimal uses.
